The newspapers print story after story showing the stunningly frequent occurences of violence in our communities. The sheer volume of child sex predators, child abuse and domestic violence cases shows the extent of the problem and the urgency with which it must be dealt.

Child predators are clearly a serious problem in our community and a very consistent thread shown here is the commonality of plea deals and probation. In most cases that go to trial result in long prison terms. Trials avoid quick plea deals by prosecutors that offer minimal sentencing and reduced charges for defendants and allows victims to be included in the criminal justice process.

Child abuse cases often receive very light treatment in our justice system and offenders frequently get as little as probation for their crime.

Domestic violence leaves lasting scars on direct victims and children. Perpetrators of domestic violence have demonstrated a profound disregard for others. Their crimes are much worse than simple battery considering the long lasting effects born by the victim and the rest of the family.
