Denise C. Rolando - September 26, 2009
If you read the papers in Lake County you know what is happening to our children and how many of these predators are being given light sentences and are re-offending.
I've spent over 5 years in the Lake County court system, mostly Family Court over visitation disputes & violations, but also in the criminal courts for Orders of Protection and subsequent violations of the Order. It's through this experience and years of seeking help and support that I found Denise Rotheimer, founder of Mothers on a Mission to Stop Violence, aka MOMSV. Please go to www.MOMSV.org to read more about Denise's journey through the Judicial Process when her daughter was the victim of rape as a child.
MY TESTIMONY……I want you to know that when I first saw the "Too Young for Justice Series" in the News Sun in early 2008 (see the MOMSV website, 2nd tab on the left) I was still in the midst of my own nightmare in family court. I couldn't bring myself to read the whole article; I just didn't want to think about "that". I figured someone else would "do something". If I would have read the whole article I probably would have connected with Denise Rotheimer sooner. Since that time I have become increasingly convicted about my own unwillingness to do something, especially since I was well aware of how the Family Courts were operating in respect to the best interest of the children and actual truth and justice. Many of you might also be surprised to know that Criminal & Family Courts do not work together or cooperate on cases. I was wished "good luck" many times, but never given help or resources. I needed help…not LUCK. I was also in shock and am still surprised to find out how weak and un-enforceable many of the laws in this state are. I did not know my rights when I entered the Judicial System and feel it is crucial that victims be given notice of their rights, just as defendants are.
I'm asking you to support our efforts to help protect our children and let our legislators know we do care. Please consider attending the Town Hall Meeting and also signing our online petition.
